We will be having our Brookside Ranch Tour this Sunday, the 5th, starting at 10am (hopefully beating the intense heat).
Al will lead a prairie hike, pointing out grasses and forbs along the way, late summer brings out a lot of purple and yellow blooms. We'll take you through some of our grazing pastures, by our ranging meat birds and near our cow herd, hopefully getting a peak of our calves that have been recently born. Our tour will wrap up around noon, at which point you are welcome to hike/wander at your leisure.
Being that we will be hiking through tall grass, we recommend wearing long pants and close toed shoes. Rattle snakes, stinging insects, and scratchy seed heads can all be found in our pastures . If you want to bring a water bottle that would be great too.
Our address: 24563 Boothill Rd, Alma, KS 66401.
Al and I live in a bunkhouse on the property that is attached to the red shop near the road. Feel free to park in the yard, next to the hay bales, or wherever you can find a spot. If you have time, Skyline is a beautiful road to drive that gives you a good view of the Flint Hills. Skyline Rd connects highway 99, near Alma, to highway 4, near Dover. We live off of Skyline and Boothill Rd. Our roads are gravel and contain some flint rock. Drive slow and call us if you need a hand changing a flat!
We love the idea of having complete transparency with our customers and are excited to have the chance to show you around Crooked Bar N.
If you are unable to attend, prairie hikes are something we would like to continue in the future, allowing customers a chance to enjoy the prairie at different times of the year.
