Aye Aye Nu is a graduate of The New Roots for Refugees program and she bought her one-half acre of land in 2008. She was a farmer in her home in Myamar before she fled the war. She is happy to return to farming so she can spend more time with her son, Nito. Her farm got a late start when the land was torn up by some ATV’s after her first planting, but since then, the land is fenced and growing food for both herself and her customers.
Aye Aye has an outgoing personality and loves her interaction with everyone she meets at the market. She grows using organic, sustainable methods. Unlike many of her friends who have also fled war torn countries, Aye Aye and her son are here alone, without any extended family. She farms her land and brings her produce to market by herself and is both hard working and extremely helpful to everyone at the market. What she most likes about farming is the opportunity to be happy and eat healthy, as her smile reflects.
